About the Author
Ben Shaw is a Kenilworth-based author and family historian. What began as an attempt to solve the mystery of a 1595 Geneva “Breeches Bible” handed down through his family led to the discovery that one of his direct ancestors was Bryan Blundell: master mariner, twice Mayor of Liverpool, co-founder of the Blue Coat School, and slave trader.
Years of research culminated in his first book, The Slave Trader: The Story of Bryan Blundell, published by Pen & Sword History on 30 August 2026.
He is happy to speak to history societies, schools and reading groups about Blundell’s life, the Blue Coat School and Liverpool’s part in the Atlantic slave trade, and is always glad to hear from readers, fellow researchers, and anyone who thinks they may share a branch of the family tree.
